Winning

I wanted to show victory in the form of a sculpture, so I choose Usain Bolt's victory pose as my inspiration for the pose in the sculpture. I was inspired by Rodin because of his sculptures of people. I wanted the sculpture to be focused on the pose and upper body specifically because that is the essence of the moment.

  1. Ilike the natural yet small nature of the sculpture. It was intended to show a pose which involves movement, but is also very still which is shown very well in the sculpture.

  2. The pose of the man in the sculpture represents victory in an effective way and fulfills the intentions of the project.

  3. I'm thinkin of a kind of salute when I look at this guy. He seems pretty proud to me. Though I think his pride is a bit dwarfed just by the small size of the sculpture, which is interesting. Also, being all black makes the gesture seem more serious, as though whatever he is so proud of is nothing in comparison to the sky, which he salutes.

  4. Your sculpture definitely adheres to your theme of "winning." His pose of pointing to the sky makes one think he's just one something. Perhaps a race. the uniform color adds just enough to the piece to make it stand out, but not so much that it takes away from the moment.

  5. Preston, my initial reaction was to see the color of the sculpture. Choosing a black on black presentation grabs the eye. Reading your inspiration before seeing or sculpture was helpful, because while the form of the sculpture shows someone winning, usain bolts figure is less clear in the figure. If the sculpture was meant merely to depict the emotion of winning then I see it as more of a success than if or intention was to mimic usain bolts expression of the moment of winning.

  6. Preston conveyed the famous moment of usain bolt's victory, which has become a well known symbol of success. I like that he kept the form very simple because it limited the distractions that there otherwise would have been if the body had been more detailed or had a more realistic color.

  7. The work is inspiring and gives off a hopefull sense. It conveys a nice feeling and "winning" inspiriation despite being so small. The body was well crafted. My only question is why so small?
